      The Gringo Trail continues down from Panama all the way to northern Chile. Beyond this point, it then also has a sort of side-route running east into Argentina and up into Brazil. While the Atlantic side seems hardly traveled (e.g., relatively few go to countries like Suriname or Venezuela), you’ll find lots of backpacker infrastructure along.   The so-called gringo trail is a thing in Central America. There are certain hotspots where backpackers congregate. If you ask me, Costa Rica is the country most heavily populated by people traveling in Central America. While there are plenty of spots on the gringo trail worth visiting, there are ample opportunities to get out and really explore.

    This started me thinking about doing a "proper" bike tour and since I possessed a book about the Silk Road, such a bike tour loomed high on the agenda. I had also picked up a couple of books in a second hand bookshop back home in England. They were travel books on Morocco and Yunnan province in .
